Truth and Reconciliation

Truth and Reconciliation is the third campaign level in Halo: Combat Evolved. This nighttime mission to board a Covenant ship features several unique glitches and speedrun tricks.

Extra Marines

Spawn additional Marine reinforcements to help in combat by manipulating the level triggers.

Requirements

  • Must NOT use the Active Camouflage before reaching the Gravity Lift

How to Perform

  1. Progress through the level, clearing enemies as normal
  2. When you reach the area before the Gravity Lift, clear all enemies WITHOUT grabbing the camouflage
  3. Once the area is clear, grab the Active Camouflage
  4. Run past the Gravity Lift, ignoring any remaining enemies
  5. The game will spawn 5 additional Marines as reinforcements
  6. Combined with your first group, you can have up to 10 Marines total

Why It Works

The game has a trigger that spawns reinforcement Marines if you reach a certain point. By clearing enemies first, your original Marines survive to combine with the reinforcements.

Belly Skip

A major speedrun trick that skips a significant portion of the level.

This skip bypasses the "belly of the beast" section of the Covenant ship, saving significant time.

Triple Grenade Jump

A powerful technique specific to this level that allows reaching otherwise inaccessible areas.

How to Perform

  1. Stack three grenades in sequence
  2. Time your jump to receive the combined explosive force
  3. This launches you much higher than a single grenade jump

Tips

  • Requires precise grenade placement
  • Health management is critical—you'll take significant damage
  • Used in speedruns to skip sections

Quad Nade Stack

An advanced version of the triple grenade jump using four grenades.

This extremely difficult technique provides even more height but requires perfect timing and will nearly kill you.

Cliff Skips

The outdoor sections before boarding the ship have several skip opportunities.

Sniper Ridge Skip

  1. On the ridge with the sniper rifle pickup
  2. Use grenade jumps to reach higher ground
  3. Skip portions of the intended path

Pre-Grav Lift Optimization

  • Clear enemies efficiently to maintain Marine count
  • Position for quick Grav Lift entry
  • Use camouflage strategically

Tips

  • The Extra Marines trick is great for Legendary difficulty
  • Belly Skip is essential for speedruns
  • Triple/Quad grenade jumps require lots of practice
  • This level is heavily optimized in the speedrun community
